pescado what?

January 31, 2007

Miguel and I visited Pescado Mojado because I’ve just been scared of the name for too long. It’s about time I confront my fear of wet fish which is a very dirty name for a restaurant. I mean, I’ve been living in Echo Park within walking distance of this place since September 2004 for god’s sake. Unfortunately, my instincts were all right and this place is gross.
pescado mojado
Here’s my fish ceviche. I hate it when the ceviche is all mushy and there are no real chunks of fish. I didn’t even eat much of this.
pescado mojado
Miguel’s pescado frito dinner. It’s not even a pescado mojado, which I’m guessing would have a sauce? His meal was totally decent and acceptable, but if we’re gonna have a fried fish, I’ll stick to the Rodeo Grill next door or El Siete Mares down the street. I actually enjoyed the rice. I think it reminds me of this night I made some Saffron Yellow Rice with my old roommates, and we declared we were gonna eat it at every meal for the rest of our lives. I believe we may have smoked something prior to eating.

The Pescado Mojado is on the corner of Logan and Sunset in Echo Park. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

So I haven’t been cooking much lately, been too preoccupied by a new addition to the household. And how could you blame me? Look at our adorable little Dot! This picture is from when we first brought her home, but she’s grown so much in the past three weeks; it’s incredible.
DOT

We’ve actually had Dot for almost three weeks and haven’t named her until recently. I just hate naming things; I’m very very bad at it. Some names we considered were Basil, Ginger, Billy Jean and Jackie Brown. Billy Jean evolved into BJ as is apt to happen after having friends and cocktails at your house. And for some reason I liked Jackie Brown which is the same initals backwards. Regardless, none of these names really stuck. Hmm, maybe we should have called her Rubber? Cuz she sure ain’t glue. Damn, that was a horrible joke. Sometimes I think naming a puppy is harder than naming an adult dog, because you really don’t know what she’ll look like when she’s all grown up, especially hard in this case considering she’s a mutt. I saw the mother, who was part Dachsund. But Dot looks like an Australian Shepherd according to our vet. So as she’s grown a great deal, I’ve realized that she looks and acts like those Animaniacs, if you remember that cartoon. And the girl Animaniac is called Dot. And our dog has a dot on the underside of her chin. So there you have it, her name is Dot. Except, when I was searching for photos today, I realized Dot doesn’t really look like an Animaniac at all. And the Animaniacs are mice, not dogs. Whatever.
Dot
Ok, just one more. Since she is totally adorable and all.

what flava are you?

January 22, 2007

What Flavour Are You? I taste like Bread.I taste like Bread.

I am a staple in almost everyone’s diet. Friends like me are a complement to any other friends I get on with almost everyone, remaining mostly in the background, but providing substance when it would otherwise be lacking. What Flavour Are You?

That is so boring, why do I taste like bread? But I had to post this quiz because it’s fun and the last question totally appealed to me since I am an excellent blimp pointer outer.

I enjoyed a lunch at the Farmer’s Market on 3rd Street recently. We ate at the place that sells falafel. I can’t believe I forget the name as it’s very popular, but whatever. If you ever eat at the Farmer’s Market you’re gonna want to wander around looking at all the cool food stalls, so you’ll come across it eventually. This random lady needs a stretch before she orders.

My falafel sandwich was completely unphotogenic so please enjoy this slightly blurry picture of Miguel’s chicken plate. It was damn tasty. I really like their hummus.
